The School

Vision Statement:
The vision of ICS Rio International School is to raise up students empowered for success and significance to positively impact our world.

Mission:
ICS Rio International School exists to prepare students to succeed academically, physically, socially and spiritually, with a commitment to excellence in English language-based education. This education is based upon a foundation of Biblical truth, respecting individuals of varying religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Core Values:

1 - We believe in the Bible as God’s Word to humanity.

2 - We will maintain a dedication to excellence in education as all students have the potential to learn.

3 - We value and will seek to understand and meet the unique needs of a multinational student body.

4 - We will be respectful of all individuals regardless of culture and religion because we value the importance of the whole person, strive to challenge our students in their physical bodies, in their social skills and in their intellectual pursuits.

5 - We value a supportive, respectful, and caring school environment.

Philosophy of Education:
The ultimate purpose of ICS Rio is to facilitate the student’s spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social and physical growth so that the students can dynamically impact the world around them and function at an optimum in the global market place. This growth comes from integrating truth and educational knowledge that children can apply and synthesize to life situations incorporating citizenship training, character development, personal values, and ethics.

The curriculum provides a continuum in each core content area as the basis for the development of perceiving, thinking, and problem solving skills. In this curriculum, the child moves from concrete experiences to increasingly more complex levels to abstraction in critical thinking. Skills related to each area are built upon previous learning and include measurable performance objectives. Since students come from a variety of educational background, effort is made to identify the instructional level of each student in relationship to the subject continuum. This includes trying to offer alternative instruction when necessary and possible, in order to motivate the pupil to achieve at an optimum level.

Since learning is a continuum that extends throughout an individual’s life, education should foster independent thinking, exploration and healthy experimentation as a life-long process. Furthermore, as change is a constant factor in life, education should encourage students to develop personal values and thinking processes, which will facilitate their intelligent adaptability in a competitive world.

Finally, we take the position that quality education is best attained when the home and school are in cooperation with each other.
